Took a taxi to Lincoln memorial first thing in the morning in the hope that the elevation and orientation of the sun would light up the inside of Lincoln memorial to enable a good photo shot but I got there too late and the Sun was already too high. So l carried on with my itinerary and walked along to Jefferson’s memorial it was a nice day and the route took me along the Potomac River bank. I passed some serene areas with distant views of Washington monument at unusual directions.
I found it interesting that the city is not congested at all with people and there is so much space. People are also very friendly and polite. Passers-by world nod their head or murmur “good day”. The city, although large, it still has an old style community feel.
I reached the Jefferson memorial, which didn’t seem to have as many visitors as Lincoln but I assume that was because of its location rather than design. After a few photos I continued my walk to the marina in search of crab cakes for lunch. The marina was undergoing development into a luxury marina with fancy restaurants and areas to promenade which would be opening in 2017! Fortunately, in spite of the construction works the old fish market was still open for business selling crabs, fish, and shrimp and of course crab cakes. So I ordered crab cakes, shrimps and Maryland crab soup. There were no chairs to sit and eat but there were rustic sun-bleached wooden stand up tables at the river edge.
I then continued my circuit back to the hotel. I accidently followed the wrong road for about 5 blocks which meant it took me a little longer to get back to the hotel. After a short rest in my room I headed to the Irish bar, which was around the corner on F Street. Just had to have a pint of Guinness, seeing it was on Irish bar and no one else was ordering it, I felt it my duty. After my early evening drink and seeing as I had a delicious lunch, I decided to have a salad at chop-it.
After my salad dinner it was about 7 pm and time for me to grab my camera and walk along the National Mall photographing the monuments lit up at dusk. It took me 2 hours to make my way from the capitol to Lincoln’s memorial taking photos along the way. As it was about 10 pm I decided to take a Taxi hack to the hotel. It was my last night so finished the evening in the bar with a last glass of wine before bed.
