I was up again at 0800 and having the last breakfast of my road trip. I had packed my bags and checked out by 1030 and was on my way in the direction of Calais via Amiens and Boulogne. My SATNAV was telling me it would take 3 hours but I was sceptical fearing traffic around Paris, in the end I need not have worried as the roads were kind to me and I made good time. I stopped for fuel and an espresso around Amiens and continued making rapid progress, so much so I had several hours before my train at 2020, so I decided to make for the shopping mall in Citi Europe, a massive shopping mall full of French goodies. I parked and then had a nice leisurely browse amongst the varied shops; finally I decided to have an early dinner. I didn't want to eat when I got home so this was ideal. I found a nice little Brasserie and had a large salad. After eating and paying I still had plenty of time to visit the supermarket and buy a few cases of the delicious wines, some of which I had sampled on my French tour. My car boot being already full with luggage meant that I had to fill my back seat with the 10 cases of wines I bought, and a few cheeses of course. Buying the cheese was a bad idea as it immediately started to stink the car out, and by the time I was driving through passport control the pungent aroma was emanating out of car window straight into the border agency control room as they checked by passport. I assured myself that they’re used this, it is the French/British border after all. My train left France on time at 2020 with me and my car onboard and I was on my way to home. Back to rain, sausages, beef and roast potatoes.
