Yay made breakfast this morning. Hmmmmm excitement lasted until I saw the fare. But it was breakfast now get a car and hit the road!
Took a run up to the Blue Mountains to drop a resupply off at a place we will use as a base for a few days when we're not allowed to camp on the trail. That's a bit of a bummer but we learned in the planning that the places we can camp are a long way between each other, so it's a bit of a reminder of the Heysen in SA where you need to use a base.
I believe that most of this is because the trail spends a lot of time on private property and understandably the farmers aren't keen and perhaps been burned from past experiences. We've found some people who do it and they call it 'stealth camping' but I don't want to wreck it for future walkers. There's a story that the Bruce Conservancy is trying to buy these section but that may be a way into the future.
Driving through the countryside is everything you've ever seen in pictures of Canada. Beautiful trees and they are starting to colour up so we expect to see some beautiful autumn colours as we track along. Our surprise came when we see an Amish horse and cart coming up the road. Must be a community of there here somewhere.
We had lunch at the mountain village which is a ski place. Slopes everywhere and they were busy preparing for the coming season. It's cold! Sun is shining but it's cold!
Finally found a place with a gas canister that fitted our stove and meths for the burner. That actually proved to be a challenge and a mission. So stocked with our supplies we found accommodation at a new inn in Midland. A tad different from Midland in Perth! Found dinner at a place called the Explorers Cave. Different - but food was good and I MUST remember to order an appetiser serve only!!!!! No wonder these people are so overweight!
Goodnight and a sleep for 7 1/2 hours. Jet Lag going away! Woohoo!
