Our hosts Doug & Marlene laid out some fabulous Quiche and Zucchini Fritters with a couple of slices of Ham for me for our Brekky as we planned an early start. Up early and zapped our brekky in the micro. Thankfully no packing up to do as we are staying here 2 nights, so it was day packs once again. Out the door at 6.30 the get our ride out to Cape Dundas for our start point today. The plan was for us to walk back into Lion’s Head instead of trying to coordinate a pick etc., very smart suggestion by our host and shuttle driver Doug.
We had chosen to walk a 28km day today with day packs only therefore shortening our journey tomorrow by 4km with full packs. Doug dropped us off in the half light before sunrise and we head back up north. The track dropped 250m from the top of the bluff down to the shoreline at Cape Dundas in a very steep and rocky descent. Lari managed to slip and slide down about 5m of it on her Butt, ending up with a muddy skirt, knickers and Butt for the second day. To think she only got them washed yesterday Ho! Hum!
It was bitterly cold at around 11C but with a very strong cold wind driving in off the Bay. There were actually waves of +/- .5mtr crashing onto the beach. The walking trail was magnificent once again although fairly rocky in places and very slippery in lots of other places. Fabulous mix of trees and vegetation once again with plenty Fungi again but not as many or as varied as yesterday, all still beautiful. With only day packs and 13km odd of road work today we were able to really get our walking boots on and power our way in by late lunch time. We really are getting our trail legs back in shape. Mind you after sitting for a bit I sure know I have put my legs through the mill.
Last night on our way out to dinner we saw a BLACK Squirrel but it was moving too fast to capture. Today on my way back in I managed to capture it. Just did not know there was such a thing as a Black Squirrel.
Looking forward to another good meal tonight and early to bed for another big day with our full packs on for the first time in 3 days.
