A medieval stone built castle near the Limassol Marina. Includes some medieval artifacts and provides an amazing view of eh sea and city from the roof.
What I experienced here
This stone built castle is located on the far Western side of the city. It dates back to the 1200 and was repaired (after several raids) in 1373. Its purpose was to guard and protect the port and the City and withstood several attacks by the Egyptian Mamelukes. The castle was torn down in 1570 to prevent a being taken over by invaders. Access is provided to the rook from where wonderful views of the city and se can be enjoyed.
Walked around hte in teh rooms downstars and examined all teh ancient artifacts, enjoyed the roof area and the view over the city.
This is a simple castle with few historic pieces. But its simplicity is part of its charm. I felt I wanted each room to tell me all that went on in them, the stories, the history. On the rook the contrast can be seen of in the city between the current simple Cypriot living and the modern 5 star resort being built in the marina is palpable.
If you have not read up about this castle in advance you will not learn much by visiting it, there is very little information on display to inform tourists of its rich history.
